Austin Texas Real Estate Buyer Checklist

Here's what you need to think about before you get started. Use this handy checklist to make sure you get everything done in the proper order.

1. First, make a list of the 3 things you absolutely must have in your new home. These can be anything from a fenced yard to an extra living room to an island kitchen...whatever you need to feel that you've gotten the home you want.

2. Next, make a list of the 3 things that you'd like, but if a good house at a good price came along that didn't have those things you'd be OK.

Download and print a copy of this checklist to take on your first appointment with your real estate professional.

3. Now that you've got a general idea of what you're looking for in a home, contact a qualifed Realtor.

A Realtor is a member of the area's Board of Realtors and has lockbox and multiple listing access to get you into any for sale home in the area.

*Remember, just because your Uncle Lou has a real estate license, doesn't mean he's a Realtor who has access to all the information, updated laws and properties that you need to get a great value for a great property!

Your Realtor will very likely send you to a Mortgage Broker before they show you any homes. Why? Because Realtors deal with home buyers hundreds of times a year and know how heartbreaking it can be to find you your dream home only to realize later that you can't afford it. Getting all that done in advance makes sure you and your Realtor know what you can afford BEFORE you waste time looking at property that doesn't suit your needs.

A Mortgage Broker will access your situation, ask for certain documents and papers and begin qualifying you for a home loan. Click here to see what documents you may be asked for.

Once that's done, you're ready to LOOK FOR HOME!

4. Start looking for a home by giving your Realtor you "must have and would like to have" lists from step one and two. That list, along with your pre-qualification from the Mortgage Broker will help guide you to the perfect home.
