The
Austin area is home to five different school districts and five
major colleges.

National and Texas Blue Ribbon Awards.
Austin is ranked by Parenting Magazine as one of the top-ten cities

COLLEGES
AND UNIVERSITIES
The
University of Texas at Austin is the largest component of The University
of Texas System. UT Austin is a major research university that is
home to 48,000 students, 2,700 faculty, and 17,000 staff members.
UT Austin was founded in 1883 on 40 acres near the state capitol.
As the academic flagship of the UT System's 15 component institutions,
the University is home to students from every country in Texas,
all 50 states, and about 120 foreign countries.
Austin
Community College has been serving the Central Texas community since
1973, when it was established by the Austin Independent School District.
Today it is governed by an independent board. The college has grown
to more than 26,000 college credit students each fall and nearly
18,000 additional enrollments during the year in continuing education
programs.
Concordia
University at Austin is a private, coeducational institution of
liberal arts and sciences offering undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Founded in 1926, Concordia is affiliated with the Lutheran Church,
however all faiths are welcome. The campus is located on a tree-shaded
20-acre campus in the heart of Austin.
St.
Edward's University
is a private, Catholic liberal arts institution of about 3,800 students.
The Rev. Edward Sorin, the same priest who founded the University
of Notre Dame, founded the school in 1885. Students enjoy the advantages
of small classes and personal attention coupled with excellent internships
and service-learning opportunities.
